The Merry Month of May and Lacock Village. Part 2.
It is the merry month of May and I'm on my way. Creatively and physically moving again!
I hope you all had a really good Easter break enjoying all of the wonderful sunshine. I have been busy over the holidays and have missed some of the sun. The Etsy shop has been redesigned and I have listed some new fairy jewellery for spring.
My mind seems to be buzzing with fae ideas at the moment for greetings cards, prints and jewellery which is featured here and on facebook. It is the merry month of May and I'm on my way. Creatively and physically moving again!

The Moon Owl Fairy is an illustration in progress and as you can see I have painted a piece of luna jewellery into the image. The fairy creature with the long eared owl is another shape shifter like the Fox that I created last September.
I think there is definitely going to be a series of shape shifter paintings that will be made into unlimited prints and cards. The Fairies Under the Tree will be printed as well.
Also in the near future we will be packing boxes again and moving to another part of Wiltshire for the summer. We don't know which area yet, but it will be interesting to see where we eventually land.
I looked out of the bedroom window the other morning at the empty pink cottage across the road. I love it's thatched roof and I'm sure the May fairies have built nests in the thatch. I began to think maybe we could move in as well, but then again the little cottage would be too small for us. We need some extra rooms for creative work.
I do have mixed feelings about shifting again, we are kind of fed up with it and we would like to stay in one place to put down some solid roots, but on the other hand it is nice to have a change of energy and scenery. I think we will find a permanent dwelling one day! Also in the near future we will be packing boxes again and moving to another part of Wiltshire for the summer. Lacock Village. Part 2.
One of the highlights of visiting Lacock is seeing the beautiful pottery and art studio, owned by David McDowell. The ceramic pieces there are stunning and I especially liked the running hare sculptures. I would have loved to have bought one... Maybe next time when we visit again. To see the website link to Lacock pottery, just click HERE.
In the very heart of the village we visited the Fox Talbot Museum and the spiritual Lacock Abbey which is such an unusual piece of architecture. It was built during the early part of 13th century and then the Abbey was converted into a house in 1539.
The splendid building was built around the abbey cloisters, so much of the original ground floor still survives largely intact today. Looking at the grand facade of the house it looks to me like a Moroccan or an Indian palace with the arched doorways and windows.

Most of you will recognise the abbey hallways from the Harry Potter Movies. The Warming room has a huge type of witches cauldron and information about the Potter films. It used to be the only room in the abbey where the nuns could go to keep warm.
We were very lucky to have visited on a quiet day. It was so peaceful and beautiful to see the sun shining through the windows. I took some photos of the hallways and to my amazement I captured something very unusual in the photographs... Who or what do you think they are?
I showed this image on facebook and received a very interesting response about these light ghostly figures... I think I have seen some ghosts at Hogwarts!
What do you think? ;-)
What do you think? ;-)
The painting below is called Fairy Homes and Gardens, painted in 2008.
Moving Notice... At the moment I'm away with the fairies and moving to a new nest at the end of June. Have a lovely summer blog friends and I will see you again soon, either here or on facebook! xx

Hi Joanne,
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet pin brooches with the charms and the little pink house is fabulous.
Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Hi Jo!
ReplyDeleteLove your new jewelry pieces, especially the brooch! I'm excited to see the new illustration you are working on. ;)
I still love, love, love a thatched roof. So much charm.
Ok, the last photo is totally cool! Indeed I think you found some ghosts! What an incredible photo! :)
xx, shell
Wonderful journey - small cottage, art, abbey and ghosts oh my! That photo is quite something... I know how frustrating it can be to move and move and move. When I finally landed at RavenWood, I was so very relieved. Finally, I could make a garden that no one else could destroy ( an old landlord gave me permission to make a garden and it was then dug up!) paint the walls, sing in the forest - wishing you find your place and can put down deep roots. Wherever you land in between, I hope its wonderful. Forest blessings, Valerianna
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Carolyn, Shell and Valerianna!
ReplyDeleteThe pink cottage is a sweet place, but unfortunately I think it only has one bedroom.
Moving again is a bit of a pain, but at least we have 2 months to find a new home... I will try and enjoy the journey this time and not get too stressed! ;-)
I'm really looking forward to the day when I can paint the walls in our own cottage.
Valerianna, your home in the forest is lovely. I feel it's worth waiting for, to buy the right house!
Shell, the illustration is going well... I will send you an email this week. ;-)

Hello dear Jo,
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to come home and see your beautiful pictures of Lacock in the sunshine ( and there are absolutely strange things going on in the Abbey!
I wonder where your travels will take you this time? There are so many lovely places in Wiltshire, tons of luck in finding your new home, I'm keeping everything crossed for a stress free move.

and all the photos are so magic.
thank you fairy lady !
kiss.
The Owl Moon Fairy illustration is looking good, these eyes are so ethereal and hypnotic.
ReplyDeleteLovely brooches and photos....especially the hallway with angelic light figures.
Best of luck finding your beautiful new home,I'm sure you will have lots of helpers, seen and unseen!
All best wishes
Ruby
Hello Joanne,
ReplyDeleteOnce again, visiting here is a magical experience. Your illustrations are works of whimsy ... Oh, how I love the storybook quality to that pink cottage with the thatched roof! I would love the nest in home such as that one!
As for the spirits you have captured ... I saw a row of four angels ... my mind's eye perceives a wing on the first silhouette on the right.
Wishing you a blissful week ahead ... may the earth be light beneath your footfalls.
An all round fascinating post as always, Jo. I love your incredible jewelry and drawings, of course. I think they'll be huge hits in the shop! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for sharing more Lacock's stories with us. oxx
Hi Jo, that last photo is astonishing isn't it? A row of angelic figures, heads bowed in reverence.
ReplyDeleteYour jewellery is so pretty, I love the new moon faces and those blues that you use, beautiful!xx
An interesting post Joanne. I really love those mystical hare pendants you put onto your pieces of jewellery.
ReplyDeleteDear Jo, it is so good to hear that you inspiration & creativity have returned again! I always feel completely lost when mine fades away, and it has a wee bit since we moved. I completely understand the moving issues, have you found somewhere yet? I love the new jewellery pieces you are creating, the new shop header & the look of your shop. Lacock looks a beautiful place to visit, (now added to my list lol) x x
ReplyDeleteYour kind comments are very much appreciated. I will be sure to catch up with you all soon! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that quite a few people have said that they think the ghostly figures are angels!
I took about ten photos of the hallway and they all came out very similar. I was completely alone in the abbey at the time and the sunlight was streaming through the windows. I could only see the light shapes through the camera, but they were gone when I looked up towards the hall!
I must say it was quite a weird and wonderful experience. :-)
Ruthie, I have not found another home yet. We have at least 2 months to find somewhere new, so I'm not too worried at the moment!
Good to hear you are settled into your lovely cottage. Enjoy your new home and work space.
It's great to see you all here and thanks again!

Joanne May, I simply love this post. What a charming collection of fairy jewellery. I think the moon faces are particularly very nice.
ReplyDeleteThe owl and fox fairy in your illustrations are magical. I simple love their wild expressions.
Those Lacock photos are perfect too. I personally feel that the light beings were certainly there for you to see them that day!
I hope your move goes smoothly and the light workers help you on your way.
Good day to you my dear.
Wiccan Witch from Glastonbury.
Thanks so much for popping by my blog! I do believe I've been to yours before, and so happy to be back. Your jewelry is lovely, and just my kind of thing... as are your wonderful illustrations. I love all things "fox like" and just have come home from an art class where I framed my recent fox pastel. We had a mom and pups being raised right next to our house last year, and I've become quite obsessed with these beautiful creatures. Also, your ghostly figures are amazing! They sort of look like four monks bowing their heads as if your were walking past. Our house is very old, and a lady that was raised here dropped by last fall to tell us that there's a ghost from the Civil War named Herman living here. She said she used to see him as a girl, as did her sisters and brother. Well.... we seem to get along fine with Herman... Love your blog and will drop by often.

Lovely, I enjoyed the pictures of Lacock especially. It brought back a lot of memories of a trip there when little.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to more pictures of the lovely jewellry you make.
THe photos of Lacock Abbey are beautiful, I can see why you think it looks Moroccan or Indian. I think your photograph has captured the ghostly figures of the nuns who originally lived in the Abbey.
ReplyDeleteHope your hunt for a new home goes well and is stress free.
What a lovely and fascinating post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post!Your jewelry are as always amazing as your photos as well!
ReplyDeleteI understand what moving means, it's a little sad but at the same time a new adventure.
I love your Jewelry!!, for wear and dream. Wonderful photos too.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Darling Joanne - beautiful treasures here to behold - your fairy jewellery is so beautiful, and I love your drawings. How cool is that ghostly photo? Lucky you...and thankyou so much for your kind notes on my blog...you made me smile xxx
ReplyDeleteHow enchanting Wiltshire is. To be able to walk among the energy in Lacock Village must be truly invigorating, and it shows in your artistic conceptions. I love the story of the Warming Room. I read the story "The Pagan Nun" and this so reminded me of the main characters endeavors. I so love visiting your world. You are such an enchanting spirit. Peace. Brianne
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!!!
ReplyDeleteI truly love all your art photos and how it’s a good read about Lacock village.
I'm wondering how I could be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which ought to do the trick!
Have a nice day and I will visit you again!
Wow...the pics of the abbey remind me of Salisbury Cathedral. Good luck on the move, sometimes I find that others are not in fact copying me, (or I them) but that at times we move on a common wave of symbolism! Fascinating and lovely pics and jewelry as usual and can't wait to see the shape shifter series! Wonder where you will move to!!!!! ;-)
ReplyDeletesuch beautiful work
ReplyDeletehttp://adelledrover.blogspot.com/
love your accessory pieces! how wonderful - and of your move, i, too, moved very frequently as a child - and while it had its disadvantages, today i see it as a wonderful adventure i was lucky to have - but, i, too, long for a little place to plant those roots that never quite got to "take root" so to speak - good luck in your quest - and thanks so much for sharing such marvelous shots of the beautiful surroundings there! have a mystical day! ;)
ReplyDeleteJo the photos are amazing, love the angel one at the end. Maybe you could write off to spirit and destiny or take a break, they may publish your photo. So cool!
ReplyDeleteHope you find another lovely home to settle in. Doesn't seem five minutes since you moved, but I think its a couple of years? My does time fly. I love you shapeshifting creatures, how fantastic are they. I got so excited when you wrote about creating more of them. All these wonderful creatures your bringing to life. Thank you Jo, your post is so beautiful! Thank you also for your beautiful comment also!

ReplyDeleteOh gosh just so much here to comment on! How fun to live where there are still abbeys and cloisters and grand houses! And cottages with thatch roofs! I love to look at thatch and hope that it doesn't die out as an artform. Love your fox and owl fairies as well as the jewelry.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, you have the most enchanting blog here! I LOVE it - and I'm off to visit your Etsy shop next.
ReplyDeleteAlso thank you for visiting me. I always enjoy "meeting" new people and am very glad that you connected with my poetry. I am thrilled that you would want to include Metamorphosis on your blog list and I would be equally happy to have your site linked through mine.

ReplyDeleteJulie, I might show some pictures of the house. I will have to explore my new surroundings. ;-)
